Senator Kerry on Face the Nation

I just watched Face the Nation from this morning.  I have been kind of laughing off all these comments about Senator Obama changing his views on Iraq.

Well, now that I have watched General Wesley Clark and Senator John Kerry represent the Obama campaign in consecutive weeks I am sure an effort exists to unfairly discredit Senator McCain and his abilities as Commander in Chief.  That is just silly.

Look -- I realize that many of you disagree with Senator McCain and will be looking to help elect someone else as President of the United States.  Fine.  Fair enough.  What I don't think is right  is to question if McCain understands international affairs or question his ability to command the military. That is just crazy.  You many not agree with him on his conclusions but that man is qualified.

Senator McCain has more experience to command the military than any President to have been elected in the last fifty years.  He is more experienced than Bush, Clinton, Bush I, Reagan, Carter, Ford, Nixon, Johnson, and Kennedy.  In fact, I think he has more experience prior to be being elected than all of them combined.

Some things are just true. Obama is brilliant.  Obama is a great speaker.  All true.  One thing that is also true is that Senator McCain is eminently qualified to be Commander in Chief.

Matt, I completely agree with you and will support and vote for McCain. However, ‘General’ & President Eisenhower left office in Jan of 1961 (less than 50 years ago)…and Bush #1 was a military pilot and officer who was shot down in the Pacific in WWII. Both of them were excellent commanders in or out of the military...So I don’t think your 50 year statement is quite true. Kennedy was a Naval Officer also… But Clark and Kerry...neither are not great military leaders in my eyes and most others who have served. Semper Fi

Ike was where I stopped. I was off on the years. President Bush had a ton of experience -- from the lst he had far more than anyone. When the others are close to zero -- he still does not get the group enough to pass McCain.

"I would have at least expected the John McCain that I knew back then to realize what almost every person in the Pentagon has admitted. There are very few who walk around and say, 'Going into Iraq was the right thing to do, and we should have done it, or do it again if I have the chance.' John McCain does.

I think that quote speaks volumes to the message Kerry was trying to get across.

Yolovoter. Going to Iraq was the right thing to do...I know, I was in the battle of Fallujah in 04 (But it is pointless to debate it with you).

Yolovoter, you have lots of opinions....yet 'Zero' common sense. But you have the right to your opinions.

BTW..And you can thank a the young men and women in the military for your freedoms, you have no idea what the world is like outside our borders!!

It's just politics Matt - attack any opponent on any point you can, even if it's completely absurd... provided it might pull some votes your way.

I'm an Obama supporter myself. Actually, I like McCain quite a bit, and would have voted for him before, but some of his current policies aren't tolerable to me. That, and Obama is in many ways a far better candidate than the democrats have had in a long time.

Anyhow, getting to the point - I always have seen McCain as a lot like you, Matt. I see you both as very honest politicians who aren't very affected by outside interests and really do what you both think is right. While I don't agree with some things you both say and do, I definitely think you're both good people and politicians that this country needs more of.

So, gonna run for 8th AD once Mariko's done with it?
